Kaleidoskop, Gronau - 26/06/2004
Fanreports

A personal report from Bejay
About 3 weeks before we learned to know that Limahl will perform a short gig in Gronau. I was happy to reach it very easily as it was just a 1 hour drive. For sure Steffi wanted to come with us. She even had the luck to come right back from holidays that day. Quite tight, but it was no problem as the concert would start late. I ordered the tickets right the next day. .

One day before I had a gambling day with my friend, and while I was telling her about our upcoming concert she was hooked for the idea and spontaneously decided to come with us. She even loves the 80s songs and the name Limahl was well known to her.

It became Saturday, my friend arrived at 4.p.m, and she wanted to see the concert as well. At about 5 p.m. Steffi called me from the airport. About 90 minutes later we took her from her front door and we were ready to go. Just 1 hour later we arrived in Gronau.

The Kaleidoskop was easy to find, we stopped at the front door and watched for other fans from the Limahl Forum. As there were nobody to see we decided to go in. The few people at the cash desk have been very kind and nice. As I was curious to know they said Limahls contract is for a 40 Minute performance, but he could surely play longer if he wants to. Limahl was also being a very nice guy, the cashier remembers. Later he gave us an idea of were to disport. So we went to Gronau´s city centre to have a drink.

Finally it was time to go in and we saw the last part of Gaby Köster´s performance. Inside we met lots of familiar faces, nearly the whole Fan Forum was to attend. In my opinion the disco was very smallish, I guess there was space for about 150 people. Above the small, about 50 cm high stage a screen went down. They played phantastic songs of the 80s,  from Cindy Lauper until Madonna, and on the screen they showed the videos.

At about 0:40 a.m. we went right in front of the stage. I snatched a great view right in the middle of the second row; Steffi was in front of me, my friend stood beside Finally Limahl was announced a bit late and he started with 2 dancers. The concert began with K.A.J.A.G.O.O.G.O.O. the last song from the A-side of the White Feathers LP.

Usually this song is an instrumental version, but Limahl performed it with lyrics. It sounded really great. Between the next song he said in almost perfect German. “Good evening, how are you? I am happy to be with you tonight. I think you all know this next song, yes, I want to see your hands, come on...

Then he sang Too Shy. A cult song, the audience sing along.

“Give yourself applause” he said when was finished, yes, we really earned it.

After performing Love is Blind he announced his next title: “As most of you know I took place at the Comeback Show on Pro 7. If you voted for me I want to say thank you. Now for you some of my performing songs of the Comeback Show.”

He sang You to Me, Never can say Goodbye and The Way to your Heart and we fans sang along. The next song he also announced in his cutest German: So, is anybody in love today? How many? Seven. Okay then, who is looking for somebody tonight? And at least, who is searching for Sex? The audience was to ponder. He: Is my German so bad? No Limahl, its just prefect :-) This song is for all people in love and I got the most voting from you in the Comeback Show.

He took a sip of Herforder Beer and he sang Can you feel the love tonight just wonderful.

Right after the song he pronounced : First was he book of Michael Ende, then the movie The neverending Story and right after the Song.

To support his song he had his two dancers again.

During The Neverending Story he also shared autographed cards and shoke hands.

My friend and me catched a glimpse of him...oh dear, just this small gesture makes such an event very special. As Anastasia (jury member of the CBS) already said, it makes you think you are the only person he sang for. These moments will stay in your memory forever.

When the song was over he said “Until Soon, I hope you liked it!” and disappeared for a very short tim

Soon he came back and pronounced: I want to leave you with my first big hit with Kajagoogoo. Finally he sang Too Shy in another version; he performed on the instumential version of the single B-side. Great. At the end he became really naughty; he said I want to see you take your cothes off...haha, such a rowdy. I answered “You first”…what a shame he was not listening to me…:-) The evening was over much too fast.

The 80`s party went on when Limahl left the stage. We stayed a little while then went to the cashier to pay our drinks. We were still excited and we spoke lively about our impressions with some other fans. Just for fun we decided to go to the back of the building, as we thought it could probably be possible to catch a last view on Limahl.
So we were 9 Fans watching the back of a big dark building! On the other side we saw a huge car driving away and we all thougth that this must have been Limahl. This evening was over. What a pity.

We talked a few  minutes more and waved goodbyes, hopefully to see us soon again. We agreed that this was an awesome evening. We split up and went back to our cars. When we crossed the other side of the building suddenly I saw this sympathic asian dancer standing in front of the exit. I combined: Where there is a dancer, there could probably be Limahl??? We will not be disappointed. Through the glass door we already saw him, he stepped out immediately. He greeted us friendly, smiled and gave us his autographed cards. He already started to pose for photos. By chance I was standing right beside him, he took my arm and I started to joke that this time we both have had the same size, as me standing on the street and him standing on the boardwalk. I gave him sorrys for snapping so many photos during the show, how much I like his voices and how great he is and so on and on. I just rememer that I started to babble like a lunatic, I was just so excited…
Certainly he said thank you, smiled and talked to me, unfortunately I can’t remember a single word, I was just too excited. Then we both smiled for a photo. As soon as we took the photos he asked for another one? And smiled to me very nicely. I stared at him and unexpectedly all my lights switched off. I took all my courage and asked him quietly: May I cuddle you? He turned around, raised his arms and gave me a hug. What a wonderful feeling, I was more than happy. He laught and gave me a kiss on my cheek, so did I. I was flying on cloud Nr. 7. I remember him saying you are trembeling, oh yes I did, I didn’t even noticed by myself, because of my excitement. While I was still laying in his arms this second photo was taken. For me a wonderfol memory to this unforgettable evening. I stood myself beside the streets and wasn´t able to understand what I did. I felt like a mixture of “oh dear, how embarrassing” and “I feel totally happy”. I was still trembling, the last time I felt that way I was 14 years old.

As I was the only person having a camera, I had no time to think about it any further. I was this night’s photographer and I took photos of all fans.  Limahl was very patiend and nice. When he went off to his car I shouted to him that he should come back to the Ruhrgebiet, and Steffi completed “…to Düsseldorf please”. Düsseldorf? He repeated. Well I hope he keeps it in mind. He got into the car were Steve was already waiting and waved goodbye…
