Limahl erblickte unter dem Namen Christopher Hamill in Wigan , Lancashire am 19. Dezember 1958 das Licht der Welt. Er wuchs mit einer Schwester und zwei Brüdern auf.
Aber schon früh erwachte in ihm die Leidenschaft für das Singen. In der Comeback-Show vom 15.03.2004 erzählte er, dass er bereits im Alter von 14 einen Gesangswettbewerb gewann, und sich dafür 10 Alben seiner Wahl aussuchen durfte. Für einen Jungen in diesem Alter natürlich ein Wahnsinnspreis.

Limahl has seen the light of day on 19. December 1958 in Wigan, Lancashire, under the name of Christopher Hamill. He has grown up with one sister and two brothers.
Already in his early years the passion to sing awakes in him. In the comeback show he told that he won a singing competition as he was 14 years old. The prize was ten albums on his own choice. For a boy in this age it was an amazing award of course.

Schon bald zog es ihn in die Großstadt nach London. Doch natürlich kam der Erfolg nicht über Nacht, so dass er sich zunächst mit diversen Jobs, wie z.B. in einem Frisörladen oder als Barmann über Wasser hielt. Es folgten kleinere Auftritte in diversen Theaterstücken, in Musicals und Engagements in anderen Bands (Brooks, Kris, Crosswords).
1980 veröffentlichte er seine erste Single „It’s Christmas“ , gefolgt von „Angel“ in 1981 - damals noch unter seinem bürgerlichen Namen. Der große Erfolg jedoch blieb zunächst aus.
 

Directly after school he went in the big city london . But of course he did not shoot to fame. Therefore he kept his head above water with making diverse jobs, for example he worked in a barbershop or as a barman. There followed some little appearances in a few plays, in musicals and engagements in other bands (Brooks, Kris, Crosswords).
1980 he released his first single “It’s Christmas” , followed by “Angel” in 1981 - then under his real name.  But the big success was missing
 

1981 gab Christopher Hamill eine Anzeige in einem Musikmagazin namens Melody Maker auf, woraufhin sich eine Band namens Art  Nouveau meldete. So kamen die 5 Jungs zusammen. Die Band änderte ihren Namen in Kajagoogoo. In einem Interview der 80iger Show im ZDF am 17.04.01 erzählte Limahl, dass der Name Kajagoogoo keinerlei tiefere Bedeutung hat, es sei lediglich ein Wort aus der Babysprache.
Auch Christopher Hamill änderte seinen Namen, indem er seinen Nachnamen umdrehte, und das L an den Anfang setzte. Heraus kam LIMAHL.
Auch hier dauerte es noch ein wenig mit dem Erfolg. Doch nach einer schicksalhaften Begegnung mit Nick Rhodes von der Band Duran Duran kam 1982 der erste Plattenvertrag. Mit „too shy“ waren sie 5 Wochen lang die Nummer eins in den deutschen Charts. Insgesamt 20 Wochen waren sie dort vertreten
Kajagoogoo wurde die Teenieband Nr. 1 in dieser Zeit.
Doch bereits nach dem ersten Album (White Feathers) trennte sich Kajagoogoo von Limahl.

In 1981 Christopher Hamill placed an advertisement
in a musician-journal, called melody maker. A band , which was called “Art Nouveau” answered the ad. So the 5 guys came together.
The band changed its name to Kajagoogoo. In a german show, called <die 80iger Show> on 17.04.2001 Limahl explained that the name Kajagoogoo means nothing, they have only taken a word from the babytalk.
Christopher Hamill changed his name too. He turned over his last name and put one L at the beginning. The result was LIMAHL.
But the success tooked awhile. But after a fateful pickup with Nick Rhodes from the Band Duran Duran the first record contract came. With “too shy” they had been the Number one in the german charts for 5 weeks. Altogehter they where in the charts for 20 weeks.
Kajagoogoo became the teenieband number one at this time.
But already after there first album (White Feathers) Kajagoogoo broke up with Limahl.
 

Doch Limahl ließ sich dadurch nicht unterkriegen und machte auch als Solokünstler weiter.
Es folgten die Songs „Only for love“  und „too much trouble“. 1984 veröffentlichte er sein erstes Solo-Album “Don’t suppose”.
Dann fragte Giorgio Moroder an, und „Neverending Story“ (Soundtrack zur “unendlichen Geschichte”) wurde in mehreren Ländern der ganzen Welt ein Nummer eins Hit. Der Song wurde weltweit über vier Millionen mal verkauft. Limahl war damit der Kultstar und Mädchenschwarm der 80iger und war fast auf jedem Bravo-Cover zu finden.
 

But limahl keep his tail up, and carried on as a solo artist. The songs “Only for love” and “too much trouble” followed. In 1984 he released his first solo album, which was called „Don’t suppose“.
Then Giorgio Moroder requested, and “Never ending Story” (Soundtrack of the homonymous film) became the number one hit in multiple countries all over the world. The song was sold more then four million times around the world.
Now Limahl was the icon and the swar of all the girls in the eighties. You could find him on nearly all the covers of the german teenie journal called Bravo.
 

Ende der 80iger wurde es wieder etwas ruhiger um ihn, doch es folgten weitere Veröffentlichungen, wie „Love is blind“ and „Inside to outside“. Mit „Colour all my days“ brachte er 1986 seine zweite Solo-LP  auf den Markt.

At the end of the eighties it became a little bit quiter around him, but there followed two more releases like “Love is blind” and “Inside to Outside”. With “Colour all my days” he released his second Solo-LP on the market in 1986.

1992 versuchte er es noch einmal mit einem dance Remix von „too shy“ und hatte kleinere Auftritte in deutschen TV-Sendungen. In diesem Jahr erschien sein drittes Album „Love is blind“. Der große Erfolg jedoch blieb aus.

Laut einer Reportage zur Sendung Best of Formel eins im Mai 2004 arbeitete Limahl auch eine zeitlang als Produzent z.B. für Kim Wilde und Peter Andre.

In 1992 he tried it again with a dance remix of „too shy“ und had some small appearances in a few german television shows. His third album “Love is blind” was released in this year. But the big success was missing.

As per a reportage of the show called “Best of Formel eins” in May 2004, Limahl worked at this time for a while as a music producer for example for Kim Wilde and Peter Andre.

Im Jahr 2000 spielte Limahl eine Hauptrolle im Musical "What A Feeling" bis Juli 2001.

Durch den Start des 80iger Revival, wurde der Name Limahl wieder vielen ein Begriff. Das Telefon klingelte wieder für Limahl und mehrere Best of Alben wurden veröffentlicht - wie er es selbst in einem Backstage-Interview zur Comeback-Show beschrieb.
In England konnte man Limahl bereits seit 1997 wieder auf der Bühne bewundern, die deutschen Fans mussten sich jedoch noch bis zum Sommer 2000 gedulden. Dort hatte er u.a Auftritte in Hünfeld und Kiel.
Die breitere Masse in Deutschland jedoch wurde erst durch seine Teilnahme an der Comeback-Show in 2004 wieder auf ihn aufmerksam.
Alte Fans erwachten neu und neue Fans kamen hinzu. Sie alle halten ihm nun die Treue. Er belohnte uns dafür mit mehreren kleinen Auftritten in Deutschland in diesem Jahr.
Ob wir wieder mit einer neuen Single rechnen können, wird die Zeit zeigen. Das Musikbusiness ist nun mal ein hartes Geschäft.
 

Because of the start of the eighties revival, the name Limahl was well known to some of the people again.
The phone was ringing again for Limahl and a few Best of Albums was released – so he has told in a backstage interview of the Comeback-Show.
In England one could admire him again since 1997. But the german fans had to wait till the summer of 2000. There he had appearances for example in Hünfeld or Kiel.
But the rank and file in gerrmany recognized him again because of his attendance in the Comeback-Show in 2004.
Old fans have awaked again and some new fans are found. They all are keeping now the faithfulness for him.
He rewards us with a few little appearances in germany this year.
If we could count with a new single – the time will show. Music business is a hard business.
