My first meeting with singer Limahl at the Comeback Show in Cologne - A very personal diary from “Bejay”
Since ages I’ve been waiting for the day to see my favourite 80s singer...Limahl. When I was just 14 years old I bought my first record, which was called “White Feathers” from Kajagoogoo. For sure I was more than happy to hear that he would perform in a television show called The Comeback Show.
Now, 20 years later my dream could possibly come true to see my teen idol live. I started to search for all information’s to get. Where and when will the show take place, everything what could be important to know? For sure I was pleased to hear that the show takes place in cologne which is just a 30 min drive away from here.
Unfortunately we missed the first show (we, that’s my boyfriend and me), because I had to work at 6 p.m. So I was just able to record the broadcast. But nothing could even stop me from attending the second Show.
The 1st meeting at Monday, 16th February 04 (Love’s Divine on 7th position)
Unfortunately I had night shift this Monday and needed to start work at 10 p.m. So we decided to drive prior, hopefully to see a few stars arriving for the show.
To be honest I never really believed that I would see Limahl, as in my memory he was still the huge megastar, which was not so easy to be seen. I think this is the right attitude about this unusual situation; you can’t be too upset if things will not work out the way you imagine.
So we went to the coloneum in cologne. The parking lot was full, the atrium was blank, and the audience sat still in the live show. Outside on the right hand side we saw a fence surrounding the whole area. We found an open gate and entered the premises of the TV-production. Except a young, nice girl (Fan of Kelly Family) nobody was to found there. So we decided to explore this new terrain and went from one huge hall to another. When we came back we saw some lights coming from a building in front of us. We determined it as the production team’s canteen. From a distance we watched the buzz of activity. Suddenly I recognized a guy with a very bad hair day...Coolio. Right a
way I started to get nervous and in my imagination I saw lots of Limahl´s everywhere. Just for fun my boyfriend said...hey isn’t that guy Limahl? Haw Haw, for sure, it wasn’t, but then, right the other side, there was a small bloke, I couldn’t believe my luck, it was my teen idol...Limahl. He was standing there, just a few metres apart with a tray in his hands, waiting for his meal. It was a great but strange sight to behold. He took his dinner back to the elevator and disappeared. Just this short unforgettable view was worth all the driving to cologne. After 20 years I really saw Limahl with my own eyes. Later I started my night shift with a smile all over my face. I was so happy, it was just great.
The 2nd meeting on Monday 23rd February 04 ( The Way to Your Heart)
It`s getting Monday again and I took my time to arrive in cologne at about 10 p.m. Nobody apart from us stood there. Without any idea of where to wait for the artists we entered the atrium. I took all my courage and went to a security guy as I needed some information. I showed him my whole Limahl collection (including CDs, LPs, cuttings, sticker’s etc. even things from 20 years ago). He was very nice and understanding and showed us the way to the artists exit and explained at which time they should be ready to come out. So we stood there waiting for another 30 minutes. From time to time some other fans arrived. We were about half a dozen people when suddenly the first artists came over. In turn there was Arabella, Markus, Yazzy, Emilia, Coolio, Chris Norman etc. When Benjamin Boyce came out surprisingly it became much more crowded. Lots of young teen fans arrived. Benjamin was extremely nice and calm; he took a very long time to give everybody its own autograph, photos and hugs. When Ben was gone anybody else went off, apart from a friendly woman with her young daughter (they supported Ben), they both tried to catch a glimpse of Limahl.At about 0:20 I felt like I got a punch in my guts, I didn’t really believe my eyes when Limahl came out in a sexy blue Jeans Outfit. For me a dream came true.
Me as the only true Limahl Fan stood in front of the others. He watched me and said: “...aaah, it’s late, I’m sooo tired...” and felt behind, so that I was “constrained” to grab him at his Jeans Jacket to keep him in its upright position. He told me that the sound check took nearly the whole day and now it was soooo late. To prove his conclusion he showed me his watch right away. 
In spite of everything he was even nice and friendly, gave everybody of us a photo and autograph and much too soon he left us in the dark.....
A very interesting experience was to hear his voice. It was some kind of a weird feeling, because it sounds so very familiar to me….after 20 years, unbelievable…
